The Crackle technique involves the use of glass powders sifted onto fiber paper and then the paper is manipulated by hand so as to create a series of random cracks and fissures all across the surface.
When placed into a kiln with a piece of glass on top, the cracks between the powders opens even wider.  These openings can be left as is or filled with a slurry mix of a contrasting powder color and then re-fired.
